Many Baseball Players Use Music For Introductions

The bossa nova beat, rapped gently on a Gretsch mod orange drum set, cuts through the cool AT&T Park air in a quick 4/4 time.

You know the day destroys the night,

    Night divides the day …

Two measures later, in perfect syncopation, the Fender/Rhodes piano bass and Vox Continental organ join in, followed by the Gibson SG electric guitar's evocative riff.

Tried to run, Tried to hide …

Then, descending from the ether and settling upon the diamond, the feral and haunted voice of Jim Morrison. …

Break on through to the other side …

With that, Tim Lincecum's pregame psychedelic trip to the loneliest place in sports, the pitcher's mound, begins – the reigning Cy Young king joined in spirit by the Lizard King.

The Doors' iconic "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" – written fittingly enough in the key of G – is Lincecum's entrance music at Giants home games as his pregame warmup tosses come with the song pumping along, giving the waterfront yard a trippy Summer of Love flashback feel. And really, is there one more appropriate for the national pastime's biggest rock star than the epitome of the turbulent late-1960s rock star's seminal hit?

    Gretsch bass for new player?

hi, ive been playing guitar for about 4 years now, and i am thinking about picking up bass. my options are limited to whats in my local guitar center. they have a good selection, but pretty expensive. i found a really nice one today, the Gretsch Electromatic Bass:

    http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000ANJQMK.01-A2S7LX3369EFN5._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

its $250, which is about 50 more than i wanted to spend on a first bass, but i hear good things about this bass and im really liking it. then i have to buy the bass amp also, which i could prob get for like 90. all in all, about $350. is this alittle much for a first bass? and is this bass worth it?

oh one more thing, if i plug headphones into my guitar amp and play the bass on it, it wouldnt damage anything right?

its a great bass, but it has a very traditional sound. wont cut it for punk and new rock music. but its not too much for your first bass. i spent about 600 in the first 4 months of playing guitar. 300 for the guitar and 0 300 for the amp... if you put headphones in the amp and play you wont damage anything at all. but it will sound really bad

Slapping on short scale Gretsch bass?

hey I'm new to playing bass and i just got a Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet Bass:

    http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/regular/5/8/7/531587.jpg

the bass looks amazing and plays very well (as far as i know). and theres only one problem: while i have no problem with the short scale (i play guitar too and the short scale is familiar territory), i have read that it is not the best for slapping. To make things worse i've fallen in love with slapping and, despite how wrong that just sounded, i feel that i'm not getting the most out of this bass. while i can slap on it, am i really getting that authenic slap sound? does it really matter if its short scale or long? also, what about the short scale makes it so hard for slapping? thanks.

Shorter strings mean less slack. Try tuning down a tone or semi tone.
