One of the Pickups to my Fender Squier Bass are compeltely dead. I need to replace both of them and i was thinking of going with emgs. Givin that I shouldnt spend more on pickups then i did the bass ($350 at the time) what would be a set of pickups my bass would be worthy of? I play alot of funk, slap n pop punk and ska stuff so I need something with a punchy mid range
your bass is fine and the pickups might be shorted out in the phoho jack. I dont think you need high priced pickups to sound good. a great sound is in your hands and how you touch the strings with both hands. The Summer NAMM show proved that with this cardboard box upright bass video filmmed on the NAMM showroom floor
my NAMM fav was the Bogdon Box Bass video from Summer NAMM 2008

Is a squier bass that much worse than a fender bass?

I like the feel of my friends fender jazz bass and i'd like to switch from guitar to bass for a while. Is a squier really that much worse than a normal fender? The price is a big difference but if a squire isn't good enough for playing a number of gigs i'd like to know.
Squier is currently making some basses right now that are called the Vintage Modified and the Classic Vice series. The quality on these are extremely good for the price. Another option you have is SX basses from rondomusic dot com. These things are unbelievable. I spent $130 on it after shipping and I can say it is on par with Mexican Fenders. I enjoy playing it even when I have 2 $1200 basses. I recomend you register on talkbass dot com, too. Lots of great info there.
