Is it possible to paint a guitar neck without ruining it?

I want to paint a guitar neck with a banana headstock, specifically this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Maple-Mapl e-Neck-w-Banana-Headstock_W0QQitemZ15029 1500783QQihZ005QQcategoryZ41423QQrdZ1QQs sPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1 638Q2em118Q2el1247
Dude. it won't hurt it to paint it. In fact it's already been paint stained and varnished or lacquered.
However, your own paint will never stick to a lacquered surface. You're have to strip off the lacquer base (which could hurt the guitar

its a charvel jackson guitar no doubt but i would like to know the year an if its actualy usa or not the neck plate says this: CHARVEL by jackson/charve p.o.boxfort worth tx 76113 u.s.a and the cereal number is 0588. if you know anything please tell
Pics would help greatly.
If the charvel was a stamped logo with that It was definitely not made in USA
Chances are it was made in Japan.
My guess is late 80s Im not positive though.
The neck type and a picture of the neck plate
