Is it possible to paint a guitar neck without ruining it?

I want to paint a guitar neck with a banana headstock, specifically this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Maple-Maple-Neck-w-Banana-Headstock_W0QQitemZ150291500783QQihZ005QQcategoryZ41423QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247
If I applied paint would I have to put on some type of lacquer or something, also do you think that neck would fit a charvel shaped body or a stratocaster body? plz answer
Dude. it won't hurt it to paint it. In fact it's already been paint stained and varnished or lacquered.
However, your own paint will never stick to a lacquered surface. You're have to strip off the lacquer base (which could hurt the guitar neck if you're not careful) or you can sand down the already lacquered wood (completely safe to do), then paint it the color you want, then re-varnish or re-lacquer it.
EDIT: As to it fitting a chervil shaped body or a stratocaster body you really ought to ask this in the music section. it's not likely that a bunch of painter who use paint brushes to paint on canvas will know which guitar body best suits this neck...than is, unless they, too, are a serious guitarist.
But I'll star this for you. Maybe Hafwen, my super smart music friend in YA, will see this and tell you.
