Rare Charlie Christian Guitar To Be Exhibited During Charlie Christian ...

A bout of insomnia in 2002 allowed Wheelwright to make the unexpected discovery of Christian's guitar. While thumbing through Vintage Guitar magazine early one morning, the guitar historian found an ad for a rare ES-250. When he called the dealer, the serial number didn't match any of the Gibson shipping records Wheelwright had.

On second look, the dealer gave a different number matching an ES-250 shipped April 19, 1940, to Chas (short for Charlie) Christian.

"I just about fell over,” Wheelwright said.

He quickly made a deal for the guitar, and when he received it, he discovered it had a replacement back that dated to 1942, when Christian was hospitalized and later died. The collector was able to use photos and grain pattern comparison to verify that his guitar belonged to the legend. The Oklahoma History Center has photos of Christian playing the instrument.

What kind of Gibson Electric Guitar would this be?

Sorry I can not post a pic yet but maybe you could at least narrow it down. It is a gibson electric guitar. Black, but it only has 2 knobs for volume and tone. It is a lower end gibson and I remember getting it as a gift a few years ago. I am sure a few hundred was paid for it.
I don't think it is an SG. The body is pretty generic for electric guitars and the tips are smooth and round instead of coming to points like the SG. It is not symmetrical.

Is the top arched? It might be an Epiphone Les Paul.

Is it a double cutaway with a very flat top? It might be an SG.

Have you visited the Gibson website and looked at their photos?
