what do you think of the gibson sg faded?

there are 2 $500 barely used faded sgs for sale at the guitar shop.
in worn cherry and brown.
is this a good deal?
what upgrades can you do to them?
can you paint the body black or gloss it? for how much?
i want a better guitar than what i already have( a $120 stratstyle guitar)
Thanks!
Thats a pretty decent deal. However, make sure you look at all the hardware and electronics to see if they work.
If you want to customize down the road... you can add new pickups for different tonal characteristics.
Change the standard tune-o-matic for a higher end one.
get new tuners.. Maybe locking tuners?
a graphite nut.
and almost any other thing you want to it
However i'd stay away from painting if unless you have some experience.. Without proper priming, sanding, and patience a paint job can come out as crap. And painting will kill the resale value down the road.
Though if you really want too... Most body shops will paint the guitar to a really high quality for around a hundred bucks.

Which is better for smaller hands?Gibson SG faded or Highway One Telecaster?

I've been mullying over which to get, the highway one tele or the Gibson SG faded.
I read the SG's neck is good for small hands but I wanted to know about the tele's neck since i think it's more for the sound I'm going for.My ring finger is very close to 3 inches long.

I've held the faded sg and it felt pretty comfortable, my hand size didn't seem to make much difference. Are the tele and sg similar in neck width?
only one way to find out, go to a store that stocks them (or is willing to order one on sight) and try them both.
In my experience (I've short fingers too) the differences between most models are rather small when it comes to playability as long as they're of similar quality.
So you should probably go with what you like best in sound and overall feel (is it comfortable for you to hold and play?).
And the only way to determine that is to go out and play them both.
And of course don't use a store as a showroom for some online retailer! If you go there and use their services, buy there as well.
