Guitar Review: Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet

This week’s post-mortem brings me to the Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet with Bigsby. With its seasoned look, good Gretsch sensible, and mad figure you can stun out with your…. Uh…. you get the impression. This celibate cutaway, semi dull congress guitar was a conventional of the 60’s rockabilly, overwhelm and boondocks music.

The Gretsch Electromatic pro jet has an arched maple top with a mahogany back. The semi concave essentials gives this guitar its extremist reduce and shining avoirdupois discern. With its set mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard you can yachting across the 22 everyday frets cash-drawer the cows show up serene or at least until Brian Setzer comes in the stay.

The neck is set with a 1-11/16” nut that is easy on the strings, plateful to keep you in motif when whaling on the appealing bigsby vibrato bar. The pro jet comes paradigm with 2 Gretsch mini dual-coils that panic out like the rockabilly gods requirement. The dual coils have pleasant mids and fluorescent highs sui generis to these remarkable guitars. The lows are a bit lacking for my soup but penetrating lows are not sure for what this guitar was designed for. The pro jet uses one abundance and one subdue protuberance for gentle on the fly adjustments. With the 3-way toggle scourge you can sire 60’s tenor like never before. The Gretsch pro jet also includes the bigsby B50 Tailpiece and vibrato bar, chrome components and comes in show black or polished clinch. The Pro jet uses quality cut appliance heads that have admirable upset keeping the strings in conformity with general to semi forceful monkey tricks.

anyone know good pickups for a gretsch electromatic?playing punk and psychobilly?

i guess i need new pickups for my guitar which is a gretsch electromatic. I play punk and psychobilly. got any suggestions?

ive been playing a 5120 with the stock dearmond single coils for 4 years through a jcm800 100w head and they sound great for psycho.

guitarfetish make some surface mount humbuckers that retrofit that apparently sound a bit fatter and less feedback

WHAT ??!!

What do you think of the Gretsch 5125-29 Electromatic Hollow Body guitars?

Do you love them or hate them? Why? What kind of venues did you use them for and how well did they meet you expectations. Any flaws or issues that bugged you? Rank the player level these guitars are good for and anything else you wanna comment on.

Love 'em! They're great for anything from blues to punk, since the hollow body has a rich, warm tone that can be haunting or crunchy, depending on the chosen pickups. It doesn't hurt that they're gorgeous, either.

I played one in a pop-punk band and it's a great, durable guitar. We mostly played club-to-theater sized venues frequented by hipsters, so having a cool guitar gave me credibility with audiences who were infinitely more hip than I am. The only thing I don't like about the Electromatic is that the neck is a little chunky compared to my other guitars (Fender Teles and Ibanez, primarily). I happen to have small hands, so I play much better with thinner-necked guitars. When Ibanez came out with the Artcore thin hollowbody series, I bought one of those, since it's a better fit for me. Here's my guitar:

I'd say the Electromatic is great for intermediate or advanced guitarists. It might be a little too much guitar for a beginner. But it's very, very cool.
