What is the best way to care for a vintage guitar?

I was recently given a Gibson ES-125 and would love to keep it around for a while. Should I keep the strings on? Keep it dry or humid? What else needs to be done to maintain it?
If stored in its case I would loosen the strings a bit that way before you play it will be easier to clean any dust that is located around the pickups.
I do not know about this model but my DH has several guitars one of which is his grandfathers.

What size frets were on Gibson hollowbody's in the early 1950's?

I know Les Paul's always have what they call "medium jumbo", but I don't know if Gibson used a smaller fret size similar to what Fenders used on their guitars in the 50's. I've never been able to see or feel a real Gibson ES-150 or a vintage
not "all" Les Paul's used large frets,
